This Liverpool change kits history is a feast for the eyes. The Anfield side’s first-choice colours have remained largely consistent - aside from the sky blue and white shirt false start and the seismic shift to all-red - but the Away and - more recently - Third kit looks have taken in a multitude of styles and influences.

Some of the most brilliant efforts came in the early years. The standard white shirt - generally with dark shorts and “stockings” - being eventually embellished with a red yoke and then sky blue sleeves to nod to the aforementioned first Home shirt.

Red stripes, and indeed hoops, also appeared, before a plethora of Home shirt reversals worn with the Home socks and black shorts. The addition of a manufacturer’s mark with Umbro in the glorious late 1970s also gave us the first iconic yellow kits, with one later worn in the Double season as well as grey and green through the adidas years.

Reebok famously delivered ecru, plus orange and black, with navy blue controversially returning as a secondary and tertiary element. adidas’s second coming - with kits by now lasting a mere single season - brought no end to the eclecticism, and New Balance via Warrior weren’t about to arrest that progress - perhaps the less said about the latter’s offerings the better!

So what will Nike bring? We wait with baited breath. For the releases, and for that addition to sportswear designer and graphic designer Emre Gultekin’s marvellous cataloguing here.
