This is the 2021 Corinthians “Sócrates” shirt.
The new design from Nike has a largely minimalist look and pays tribute, with the script on the upper back, the number 8 and the amended crest, to legendary player “Doctor” Sócrates, who passed away exactly ten years ago today.
Sócrates was politically minded and one of the driving forces behind the “Corinthian Democracy” movement, with the stylings of this shirt celebrating this fact - the style of print on the upper back indeed refers to the Coca-Cola-esque “Democracia Corinthiana” embellishment of Corinthians’ shirts occurring during Sócrates’s time at the club.
The Dri-FIT-incorporating shirt is being released as part of a range celebrating the Brazilian football icon’s influence on the game and on politics.
