AFC Wimbledon, the London-based EFL League Two side, have launched a special pre-match/warmup shirt inspired by a jumper worn by the late Princess Diana.
Incredibly not an early April Fools joke, the release is part of a collaboration with both Warm & Wonderful - who produced the iconic original garment that many see as a comment on the then Princess of Wales’ outsider (“black sheep”) status within the British royal family - and War Child, and the red-white-and-black Umbro-branded creation will be worn prior to the Wombles’ Good Friday clash with Harrogate Town.
During the match itself, Wimbledon will wear a pared-back version of the design - to comply with league rules - and a proportion of proceeds from sales of the two articles will go to the aforementioned War Child charity at the behest of usual shirt sponsor Sports Interactive.
