Deutscher Sportclub (DSC) Arminia Bielefeld, who play in Germany’s 3. Liga, have unveiled a special new “Julias Hesse” shirt.
This 2024 Macron release honours Jewish former club president Hesse, who was murdered by the Nazis in a concentration camp 80 years ago in 1944, and the white-and-black creation is being sold as part of the city of Bielefeld’s “Aktionswochen gegen Rassismus” (“Weeks of Action Against Racism”).
Sponsors have forgone their entitlement to presence on the throwback shirt (limited to 1,905 units as a nod to the club’s year of formation) and instead Hesse’s sports shop branding appears in the central sponsor position, with proceeds from auctions of the match-worn versions - which will be combined with complementing shorts and socks to form a kit against Rot-Weiss Essen on Sunday - going towards arranging trips to memorials at the sites of concentration camps.
