Cagliari Calcio have released a Special Edition jersey by EYE Sport to commemorate Sa Die de sa Sardigna (Sardinia's Day).

Set to be worn in the May 5th match against Lecce, the kit honours the island's historic "Sardinian Revolution" and the club's milestones, like the seminal 1997 promotion.

Emblazoned with "Sa Die de sa Sardigna" and "Su 28 de Abrili," the jersey echoes the island's narrative of defiance and unity, with a pixelated design inspired by Giuseppe Sciuti's painting. Eschewing sponsor logos for cultural emblems, it features the 4 Mori logo and is crafted from eco-conscious, recycled polyester, affirming the club's commitment to sustainability.

The idea to mark the Sardinian national day is commendable, but the execution disappointing. Why on earth using a pixelated version of a painting? If it were a famous painting it might have just worked, just about: Van Gogh's sunflowers are so famous that even pixelated most people recognise them. But here it's very difficult to understand what is going on. How does it talk about Sardinian identity it's everyone's guess. The painting is also characterised by it's earthy colours, all ground brown and dust beige, which work on a realistic painting, much less on a football kit. To.top it all, the anniversary was on the 28th of April, so this also comes late. Finally, Sardinian patriots used to wave a red flag at the time: since Cagliari colour is also red, a red kit with some more meaningful symbols or graphic, and possibly navy blue as accent colour, would have worked way better. Shame.
