Cambridge United have revealed a special-edition Fourth shirt in collaboration with the Fitzwilliam Museum and Romsey Mill to mark Black History Month.
The Umbro jersey takes inspiration from An Eighteenth Century Family, a painting by British-Nigerian artist Joy Labinjo, part of the Fitzwilliam Museum’s Rise Up: Resistance, Revolution, Abolition exhibition. The artwork depicts abolitionist Olaudah Equiano, his wife Susanna Cullen, and their daughters, drawing a connection between Cambridge’s local heritage and wider themes of identity and belonging.
Designed by Umbro, the shirt features a vivid geometric print in shades of blue, red, yellow, white and black, with sponsor Brooks across the chest. Inside the collar, the club’s motto “United in Endeavour” appears, reinforcing the message of unity behind the design.
The project was shaped through creative workshops led by digital artist Antonio Roberts with young people supported by Romsey Mill, Cambridge United’s Charity Partner of the Year. The shirt will be paired with matching shorts and socks and worn on 18 October against Bromley at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, with match-worn versions auctioned to raise funds for Romsey Mill. A limited number of replicas are available via the club’s official store.
