This is the new 1. FSV Mainz 05 Home shirt by Jako.

Featuring Croatia-like red and white chequers, the 2023-24 primary design also has modern background patterning that will be familiar to the fanbase and this continues onto the otherwise plain red sleeves.

The shirt, which nods to the equivalent the likes of Jürgen Klopp wore in the 1996-97 season, also carries Mainz’s city crest just below the neck on the largely plain back, and the kit will be completed with red shorts and socks.

The red & white checkered pattern doesn’t quite work when the sponsors are white as well, as they can’t go over the white squares. So the Jako placement looks weird and squares being removed for the sponsor looks weird too. The away kit fixes both issues

There's only one team that wears red and white check shirts and that's CROATIA 🇭🇷. Mainz will surely get sued for plagiarising their home and away kits.
