The One Planet Kit, unveiled by Major League Soccer and adidas, is set to be worn league-wide on Matchday 9 this weekend (April 22-23) in celebration of Earth Day and the league's continued efforts to become the most sustainable in sports.
The hand-drawn kit design, made entirely out of Parley Ocean plastic which is created from recycled plastic waste, features a swirling print that pays homage to the ocean floor. The repeating wordmark "End Plastic Waste" is blended into the design, serving as a call to action for each club to unite in the collective stewardship of our planet.
Adidas intercepts plastics from remote islands, beaches and coastal communities to make the jerseys, preventing them from reaching high-risk ocean environments. The plastics are then collected, shredded, melted, and mixed with a threaded material, transforming them from a problem to a performance.
