Newcastle United have unveiled their 2022-23 Home shirt by Castore.

In addition, the Premier League club have announced that their main sponsor next season will be the television broadcaster, Channel 4, and the network’s logo will appear in place of Newcastle’s famous black and white stripes.

While the placement of third-party branding in the proportions seen here is rare, it has in this case been sanctioned by both the English Football Association and the Premier League, owing to the fact that the colour proportions of the shirt do not deviate from the Magpies’ listed first-choice palette.

In publicising the deal, Newcastle United’s Assistant Marketing Coordinator, Flo Rapiol, stated:

“We’re delighted to announce a partnership with, in Channel 4, one of the UK’s most recognisable and iconic institutions. While the manner in which Channel 4’s identity appears on the shirt may be radical, we know from the warm response the current season’s shirt has received that the fans will be happy to see its inadvertent number 4 retained in a more explicit style next season.

“Furthermore, the inclusion of Channel 4’s logo both provides a forward-thinking rendering of our famous stripes and, in effect, leaves the usual central-sponsorship position clear - something that football fans are known to crave.”

For their part, Channel 4 have also welcomed the deal with much fanfare, with Commercial Partnerships Director Ari Pollof declaring the tie-in a triumph for both parties.

“While Newcastle United’s black and white stripes are sacred to the St James’ Park faithful, we’re sure the fans will appreciate that our logo, in monochrome form, is akin to a like-for-like replacement, and our two organisations will prosper as a direct consequence of our dovetailing.

“Any suggestion of a conflict of interest on our part is entirely without merit and we will continue to appraise Newcastle United Football Club, as a sporting entity and a business, with the balance and impartiality required of every media outlet.”

Did we fool you? It is, of course, that day again. The real Newcastle United 22/23 Home shirt will follow in due course.

Thanks go to DesignFootball.com member Silky Smooth for the brilliant rendering.

Two stars for humour. Why not have each player with their own bar code depicting their value?

Clever little trick. Plus, as someone has rightly pointed out, there is a subliminal number"4" appears in black around the buttons of the collar and above the top of the blue sponsor in our current shirt (not on the junior top).
It resembles the digital number you might see on a calculator or digital dial.
I hope the genuine 22/23 shirt is a bit more sympathetic to some of our past kits, maybe like the wonderful ASICS strip from 1992-94 or maybe a reworked version of the top from the early 1970s
