Adidas is dipping back into club folklore with a faithful re-issue of Manchester United’s 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup (ECWC) away shirt.
The original was on Mark Hughes’ shoulders when his brace sank Barcelona 2-1 in Rotterdam, handing United their first European silverware for 23 years. This revival keeps the period-correct Trefoil branding and will be offered in both short, and long-sleeve versions.
The jersey stays true to the 90s template: a bright-white base carries a subtle geometric jacquard, red three-stripes run the full length of raglan sleeves, and fine black piping traces the seams. The V-neck and cuffs feature red knit tape with broken white rectangles, matching the original trim. On the chest, a raised felt crest is topped and tailed by “European Cup Winners’ Cup” and “Winners 1991”, while a single red Trefoil balances the design.
