Portsmouth FC (Pompey) have dipped into the archive to release a Gola‑branded retro home shirt re‑creating the design worn in the 1980‑81 and 1981‑82 Division Three campaigns.
The top returns in royal blue cotton‑look polyester with a white fold‑over collar and matching V‑insert. A ribbed shoulder flash carries red, white and blue hoops that run into a white yoke across the back, while plain white cuffs tidy the sleeves. The period Gola wordmark sits on the right chest, and the club’s 1980s “anchor and football” crest, a rope circle enclosing a ball, cutlass and anchor, is embroidered opposite.
Founded in Leicester in 1905, Gola supplied Pompey from 1980 to 1982, a period that saw Frank Burrows’ side finish sixth in their return to the third tier before dropping to mid-table the following season. The anchor badge itself remained on first‑team shirts until the summer of 1989, when Portsmouth reverted to the traditional star‑and‑crescent.
