The contract includes the sponsorship for the rest of the present season plus the 2009/2010 campaign. The economical terms haven’t been confirmed, but it was previously rumoured that Lendoiro was asking around two million Euros per season. It was also known that the players will wore the new shirts (with the legend ‘Estrella Galicia’) during the game against Sporting Gijón.
This deal is just a confirmation of the good relationship between both entities, actually Estrella Galicia is already one of the major shareholders of Deportivo (they possess 1% of the club shares). Initially, the beer company had 146 shares of Deportivo, and on January of 2005, they bought an additional package of 1,898 shares paying the price of €114,069.80. This as part of the failed operation that was trying to increase the club’s capital to €60 million.
Estrella Galicia is a brand of Spanish pilsener lager. The brewery was founded in 1906 by Jose Rivera Corral in the city of A Coruña. Although mainly found in the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia, it is available elsewhere, both on tap and bottled. It is 4.8% alcohol by volume.
In 2006, the company celebrated a century in existence. A beer named 1906 Reserva Especial was launched to commemorate the anniversary. In addition to Estrella and Reserva, the brewery also produces HR, River and River Zero. The company has been very successful throughout its centenary history, actually a financial report made by a local university and that was launched in 2006 was pointed to Estrella Galicia as the most profitable company in Spain.
