And the new Derry City jersey is understood to be in production with local sportswear manufacturers, O’Neill’s, in the hope that the new kit will be available shortly.
George Dunlop won the right to put his name prominently onto the back of the shirt and all 50 entries into the draw will be embossed onto the back of the shirt as a token of our gratitude for entering the draw and helping us raise £50,000 for the club.
Cityprint, who joined 49 other businesses, groups and individuals, in a special draw to raise money following the departure of former shirt sponsors, Meteor Electrical and the “Derry News,” were drawn out of the hat by team boss, Stephen Kenny.
Cityprint proprietor, Kevin Clifford, said he was “absolutely delighted” to be fortunate to be named the club’s main sponsor for the remainder of the season and he would look forward to the experience.
“We have enjoyed a long relationship with Derry City having been the club’s programme printers since their first match in the League of Ireland back in September, 1985 and we’ve printed every matchday programme over the past 24 years,” he said.
“Cityprint has been associated with the club through thick and thin and while winning the draw certainly gives us a great thrill, I think it’s also important to play our part in helping to keep our local club afloat.
“As a local firm we’re happy to play our part as, indeed, were the 49 others who paid £1,000 to join the draw which, I believe, was a novel idea following the loss of the former shirt sponsors,” declared Mr. Clifford.
