Gazprom aiming for AZ Deal

az gazpromDutch newpaper De Telegraaf reports that Russian company Gazprom is interested in buying AZ.

The Dutch champion is currently for sale at approximately 35 million euros. Apparently Gazprom is looking to pick up AZ shares and is also interested in buying the stadium in Alkmaar.

AZ, Dutch League champions in 2008/09, have been without a shirt sponsor since the recent collapse of the DSB Bank, and for the Russians AZ seems to be a "cheap" option to show their name at Champions League level.

The largest company in Russia and the world's largest gas company, are looking to get on the Dutch market, and already showed their interest in FC Volendam last year, until it relegated.

Gazprom previously played an important role at the Russian club Zenit St Petersburg and is currently shirt sponsor of German football club Schalke 04. The German team receives 25 million euros a season.

Previous Chairman Dirk Scheringa invested 100 million euros in AZ, but it's not expected that the Russian energy giant will have to pay this for the club.
