The Football Association of Ireland today (March 18) announced that it has signed a new ten year commercial partnership agreement with Umbro,  official kit sponsor to all of the FAI’s senior and underage international teams.

The agreement will come into effect from August 2010 and will significantly increase Umbro’s sponsorship commitment to Irish football.

The value of the agreement is €25.6m over the ten year period with the potential to rise to over €34m through performance related bonuses. As part of this deal, Umbro will also manage the FAI’s on-line store and merchandising license programmes.

Umbro will also renew its sponsorship of the FAI’s junior, intermediate and youth cups, the high profile Umbro Kennedy Cup and the Umbro Colleges and Universities League.

Welcoming the new agreement, John Delaney, Chief Executive of the FAI said;

“I am very happy to agree an enhanced partnership with Umbro as official kit sponsor to the Irish team until 2020. Umbro are wonderful supporters of Irish football.  Their commitment is demonstrated at all levels of the game and continued just last week with the opening of the first official Umbro FAI supporters store in Dublin’s Westmoreland Street where fans can buy international match tickets and the full range of Umbro clothing and giftware. Our ten year agreement with Umbro is part of a global trend towards long term deals which will deliver a guaranteed annual revenue stream, vital for the development of our game at grassroots level.”

Commenting on the new deal Jonathan Courtenay Director of Football for Umbro Ireland said;

"We are delighted and honored to renew our deal with the Football Association of Ireland. Umbro have held the FAI contract since 1994 and the new deal will bring us through until 2020, a full 26 years which in todays fickle sponsorship world shows the strength and trust behind the partnership. The new deal reiterates Umbros commitment to the football family in Ireland as the agreement will again, benefit people at all levels of the game. We very much look forward to working with the FAI in the years to come and we promise to deliver exciting revolutionary product along the way. Finally for the fans, we look forward to roling out more Umbro FAI stores across the county in the years to come"
Umbro are much much better than allot of others, your new away kit is splendid
    to be fair. Are there any Irish kit firms, you guys in the 80s were sp*n*ered by O Neill I think but I haven\'t heard seen anything by them for God knows how long.
    Plus Bohemians, & Shammi Rovers are Umbro teams.
O\'Neills are concentrating most of their efforts on their GAA contracts these days. I can\'t vouch for the materials used but most of their GAA kit constructions still have an early 90\'s look to them. :huh:

    They usually make good kits but its a bit boring having the same kits all the time :sad:

    I\'d rather Puma made them :P

    Yes we have have O\'Neill\'s and they are top quality. 100x\'s better than in years past. I wish the FAI would sign a deal with a IRISH company. And all writing on the kit should be as Gaeilge (In Irish)

    Umbro produce great kits and ones which are fairly traditional.I think it\'s a good move on Eire\'s part.More often then not the designs are good quality.
    I like the irony that Umbro are a British firm doing Ireland\'s kits!!!
    Saying that though Nike own Umbro and of course they are American.

    Le coq sportif yes, Kappa no.
    Anything le coq sportif turns to Gold.
    everything Kappa have touched: especially since the \"shake down\" years of Juventus 96, have turned into Graham Norton.

    Umbro always produce quality designs for their away kit.

    Oh no! That means we get the same template as england for the next 10 years. Couldn\'t we have got Le Coq Sportif or Kappa? Both of those companies are something different and better!

    Just hope they can match the amount of cash on offer with a quality shirt this time.
