Queens Park Rangers are close to agreeing a new £20 million shirt sponsorship deal which could result in Loftus Road being renamed the Kingfisher Stadium.

Formula One team Force India's owner Vijay Mallya is expanding his football interest outside India and is on the verge of inking a shirt sponsorship deal with English Championship club Queens Park Rangers, according to media reports.

Mallya, who sponsors Kolkata clubs Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, is close to agreeing a five-year £ 20 million deal to advertise his Kingfisher beer on the players' shirts, and a naming rights deal for the Loftus Road stadium, to be named after Mallya's Kingfisher brand.

An announcement about Mallya's involvement is expected early this week, the report said.

Bought in August last year by F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone and Renault's Flavio Briatore, Mallya would be the third Formula One luminary to be associated with the West London club.

It was only recently that Briatore is even said to have considered renaming the club - to Queens Park City - in order to emphasise its position in the capital.

Rangers have already announced lucrative deals with Santander, Gulf Air and kit manufacturers Lotto. Indeed this latest coup would be another feather in Mr. Briatore`s ever expanding cap.

Kingfisher Stadium...urgh :Pinch: I\'m still waiting to see how long it\'s going to take until FIFA accept a br...errr I mean reconsider their long-standing opposition to Rugby-style painting of sponsors\' logos on the pitches.

VJ has tried before. He wanted to sponsor Leicester several years ago and with his airline looking to come to the U.K. from India looking for increased exposure.

Make sure we get his money. His previous foray into the world of sponsorship saw Gerhard Berger loose out in F1. Hope its not the same for the R\'s.

Queens Park City? They\'re nowhere near The City. I can\'t imagine that idea going down well with the fans.
