Lotto’s 1993-94 AC Milan away shirt is a master-class in less-is-more Italian style. The crisp white base is punctuated only by a broad red-and-black chest band, the red Motta word-mark, Lotto logo and a single golden stella above the heart, a reminder of the club’s ten previous Scudetti.
A neat polo collar carries the same Rossonero trim, while the geometric Lotto diamonds sit just below it. The minimalist look was a continuation of adidas’ early-90s templates and has become one of the most sought-after ’90s AC Milan shirts among shirt fans today.
On the pitch the shirt belonged to one of the most efficient sides in modern calcio. Fabio Capello’s Milan conceded a miserly 15 league goals, grinding out a third consecutive Serie A title despite scoring only 36 themselves. Tradition dictates that Milan wear white in European finals, and the Athens showpiece on 18 May 1994 cemented the superstition. Missing Baresi and Costacurta through suspension, the Rossoneri still demolished Johan Cruyff’s “Dream Team” 4-0. Daniele Massaro struck twice in that pristine kit before Dejan Savićević’s audacious lob and Marcel Desailly’s angled finish completed an all-time performance. Milan added the Champions League crown to the Supercoppa Italiana won in August, completing a memorable double while finishing runners-up in both the European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup.
1993-94 was the last campaign to carry the Motta sponsor, whose red block lettering perfectly complemented the chest band. From 1994-95 Opel would take over, making the Lotto-Motta combination a two-season time capsule of Capello’s ascent and Milan’s iron-clad dominance. Three decades on, its clean geometry, association with a historic double and the sight of Savicevic wheeling away in Athens ensure the shirt’s enduring cult status.
