Bayern Munich 2001 player shirt by Adidas believed to have been prepared for Sergio for the Champions League Final against Valencia played at San Siro on the 23rd May 2001.
Bayern were looking to banish the demons of the Nou Camp '99 and become Champions of Europe for the first time since 1976. They were up against a team with even fresher scars of Final heartbreak though, Valencia, who had lost out to Real Madrid at this stage just the season before.
The stage was set and as if the pressure was not intense enough already the game would go on to be the first and only 'all-penalty' final to date. Mendieta gave the Spaniards the lead after just 3 minutes with the first of what would be 17 penalties in total during the Final. Scholl missed the chance to equalise from the spot just a few minutes later but FCB did eventually level in the 50th minute when Effenberg held his nerve to convert from 12 yards. The game remained locked at 1-1 from then onwards throughout normal and extra-time and so it was to a shoot-out. Paulo Sergio had joined the action as a 108th minute substitute but he missed Bayern's first spot-kick, incredibly in an enthralling shoot-out of intense drama Valencia missed three of their kicks to give Thomas Linke the chance to win the trophy for Die Roten and he duly obliged.
Bayern released this special Champions League kit for this campaign and it was worn from the 2nd Group Stage of the competition onwards. The shirt featured the same style of name set up until the Final itself when the font of the name was altered slightly. The shirt that was worn in the match had a 3 Times Winners Badge of Honour applied to the left sleeve, this shirt does not have this and is a spare that was prepared for Sergio and then given as a gift at the end of the game.
Correct player size flock print and Champions League starball professionally heat pressed, small size flock Opel sponsor to meet UEFA regulations, protective backing to inside of crest and Adidas logo, replica version comes with machine stitched sleeve patches, given to a match official as a gift and comes from their personal collection - a signed letter verifying this will be provided.
