Up for auction : Nottingham Forest Match / Player Shirt Adidas 1979-1980
The seller added the following : This auction is for a Nottingham Forest Match / Player home shirt made by Adidas and from season 1979-1980. Forest wore this style of shirt from 1977 to 1981 but this shirt comes only from season 1979/1980 as the shirt celebrates Forest's first European Cup triumph in May 1979 in which £1million striker Francis scored the only goal against Malmo FF of Sweden. The shirt is in excellent condition save for some marks and stains from being match worn. Size is "medium" but this is a shirt for framing / display and not really for wearing.
Please note that this is not a far-east retro-remake but a real 29 year old example of this vintage, classic and iconic Forest shirt from the club's long past glory days.
All badges are beautifully silk embroidered and the official Adidas "3 stripe" number 10 is printed to the rear of the shirt.
During the 1979/1980 season Forest played 65 competitive games in which Trevor Francis wore the no. 10 shirt 27 times and Tony Woodcock 25 times. Other players to have done so occasionally that season included the likes of Charlie George (whilst on loan) Stan Bowles and Martin O'Neill. The law of averages, allied to a preference for long sleeved shirts, suggests that Francis was the most likely wearer but this cannot be confirmed.
The shirt carries 17 autographs in black biro to the front BUT the autographs are of players from the1987/1988 season. I cannot make them all out but players autographas include:

Neil Webb
Hans Segers
Tommy Gaynor
Calvin Plummer
Brian Rice
Gary Crosby etc etc
As the autographs are not consistant with the shirt's year of origin, it could well be possible to wash out the autographs but I will leave that decision up to the winning bidder!
Rare is a word too often used on Ebay to describe very ordinary and plentiful shirts but I take the view that this shirt is genuinely rare, more so because it comes from one specific season, celebrates european glory and was quite possibly worn by one of the greatest Forest and England players of all time who was also the games first £1million pound player!
