Going, Going, Gone - Crystal Palace 1968 Home Jersey

Going, Going, Gone - Crystal Palace 1968 Home Jersey #matchworn #shirtcollector #CrystalPalacefc #cpfc #CrystalPalace

This Crystal Palace Football Club shirt, believed to be from around 1968, is a classic example of football design five decades plus ago.

Crystal Palace have famously changed their home colours more frequently than most other clubs, making this item slightly easier to date, which will have contributed to its recent auction sale at £650.

The restrained claret and sky blue stripes - of alternating thickness - are overlaid with nothing more than the beautifully embroidered club name on the front and stitched number 11 on the reverse. The high placement of the latter serves as a reminder that the item is from an era well before the adoption of player name printing (and squad numbers).

Potentially worn by winger Colin Taylor, the shirt exceeded its estimate of £300-500 - presumably providing a collector with a prized relic of a simpler football time.
