Selling for £4,400 at auction, this red and white short-sleeved match worn shirt was worn by Oleh Kuznetsov for the Commonwealth of Independent States during their Euro 92 group stage clash with Scotland.
Produced by adidas in France, the Large-sized shirt features a v-neck collar and carries the CIS felt lettering beneath the adidas Equipment logo. The front is numbered 5, while the reverse is also lettered “KUZNETSOV O.” in bold black print above the large white numeral.
The shirt was swapped with Kuznetsov’s Rangers team-mate Ally McCoist after the match in Norrköping on 18 June 1992, when Scotland defeated the CIS 3-0. This fixture marked the final appearance of the CIS at a major tournament, with the break-up of the Soviet Union the year before leading to this short-lived team competing under a transitional identity.
With direct player-to-player provenance and association to one of the defining political shifts in European football history, the shirt represents a highly collectable and historically significant piece from Euro 92.
