Selling for £1,400 at auction, this blue, green, yellow and red long sleeved No.7 strip was match worn by Tommy McLean for Glasgow Select in their Silver Jubilee fixture against the Football League in 1977.
Produced by Umbro in England, the 40in cotton shirt features broad vertical stripes of bright emerald green and deep royal blue, running through the body and sleeves. The collar is golden yellow in contrast, with a red underlayer insert visible beneath the neckline. The cuffs are black with double white hoops, adding a further accent to the striking multicolour design.
The shirt combines the colours of the city’s four clubs, green for Celtic, blue for Rangers, red and yellow for Partick Thistle and black and white for Queen’s Park. It carries the embroidered crest of the Glasgow Football Association with the inscription The Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977. The reverse is numbered 7 in white. The kit is completed with red shorts trimmed with yellow side panels and black socks featuring a white diamond pattern.
The full strip was worn by McLean on 17 May 1977 at Hampden Park, where Glasgow Select defeated the Football League 2-1 in front of a celebratory home crowd.
With direct player use and strong historical significance, the lot formed part of a wider auctioned collection relating to the career of Scotland international and Rangers legend Tommy McLean.
