Partick Thistle 08/09 away Puma kit unveiled

Partick Thistle and Greaves Sports unveiled the club’s new pink and grey hooped 08/09 Puma away kit – a first for Scottish football – which will debut when worn by the players against Forfar on Tuesday evening.

The strip is the first-ever pink jersey in Scottish club football and was chosen by the club and Greaves Sports to help set the Jags apart from their rivals.

European teams such as Benfica, Palermo and Juventus have all worn pink strips in recent years but, Scotland’s Rosebery strip aside, the trend to ‘think pink’ has yet to hit these shores.

That will all change tomorrow when Thistle’s colourful new away top goes on sale at 5pm at Firhill before being worn by the Jags during their League Cup tie at home to Forfar later that evening.

Thistle Manager Ian McCall said : "Partick Thistle fans have never been afraid to stand out from the crowd and this new away kit allows them to do exactly that."

Greaves Sports became Partick Thistle’s official retailer earlier this year and expect the away kit to be as popular as the traditional home jersey, which has been a huge hit with fans since being unveiled in June.

Sandy Greaves, managing director of Greaves Sports, said: “We wanted to bring out a change strip that would create a buzz within Firhill and generate interest in the club from further afield.

“Football strips tend to be same old, same old so why not create something fashion-orientated that appeals to a wider audience – and make a statement at the same time?

“This strip is something different which will get people talking and we hope making an impact with the Thistle away strip is something we can repeat year-on-year.”

Jags duo Scott Chaplain and Simon Storey modelled the new away strip, which is sure to get the whole country talking and will be worn on Tuesday evening when ex Thistle boss Dick Campbell brings his Forfar side to Firhill.

The much-anticipated strip goes on sale only at the Firhill club shop from 5pm that night, then on general sale at Greaves Sports the following morning.

Pink kits yet to hit these shores?

Everton famously had a salmon pink and navy striped away kit in the 90s and Bristol Rovers brought out a pink third shirt last season.

Also Brighton\'s red and white wavy effect away kit (worn at the same time as the striped shorts on the home shirt) looked very pink from a distance.

    Vasas:

One of the reasons that so many fans are buying the new strip is that it hasn\'t got a sponsor........

c*a*tastic.... pink should never be seen on a football kit but this actually works well and it is a true \'retro\' kit.

Partick have the best home and away kits so far in Scotland this season. Especially since they got rid of that ugly 80\'s corporate badge

Wow - daring, but I kind of like them. Would look horrible with a cheap kit maker but Puma made these pretty well.
