Juventus ditch stars but court controversy with slogan

Details
Jun 09 2012

The Serie A Champions' new 2012-13 kits will feature the slogan "30 sul campo" (30 [won] on the pitch) under the crest.  This is instead of the predicted third star which would have denoted the same claim regarding number of Scudettos.

According to official Serie A records, Juve only have 28 titles as they were stripped of two (2004-05 and 2005-06) due to the Calciopoli scandal.  The Bianconeri still believe they earned all the championship wins and were expected by many to add another star to the shirt to celebrate their victory in 2011-12.

In fact, Juve will not have any stars on the shirt next season.

Wales to unveil New Crest

Details
Oct 03 2010

new wales crestThe Football Association of Wales are set to unveil a new design of their traditional crest.

FAW chiefs have voted to replace the current Dragon with a new stylised logo as part of attempts to give the organisation a new corporate identity.

The change means the end of the badge that was first established in 1951 – and proudly worn by players in Wales’ only World Cup appearance back in 1958.

Many fans will be disappointed to lose the iconic design, but FAW officials are hoping the crest will represent the start of a new dawn for the game in Wales.

The new badge sees 11 daffodils represent the 11 footballers around the edge of the crest, but sees the Dragon’s head turned to face forward to illustrate the directions the Wales side are taking, and will be introduced this week ahead of the Cardiff City Stadium clash with Bulgaria.

The winners of each football league division will be wearing gold sleeve patches next season.

Leicester City players will take to the pitch during the 2009/10 campaign wearing special gold sleeve patches on both home and away shirts.

The colour change differs from the traditional Coca-Cola red in recognition of the club's League One title victory.

And Foxes supporters will soon be able to purchase the patches from the City Megastore at the Walkers Stadium and online to apply to the 125th Anniversary jerseys.

German customs investigators have seized almost 10 million counterfeit football shirts and scarves of major European clubs, German magazine Focus reported.

The magazine said customs investigators have uncovered a flourishing business in fake football shirts. Since autumn 2008, officials have seized an estimated 10 million counterfeit football fan merchandize including shirts and scarves.

Citing the German customs criminal office, the magazine said more than half of the seized goods sported badges and logos of major German Bundesliga clubs. Bayern Munich, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund topped the list.

“We’ve never seized goods in these numbers before,” Wolfgang Schmitz, spokesman of the German customs office told the magazine.
