Vasco da Gama and Braziline have unveiled the Black Awareness Month shirt, released to mark Brazil’s Novembro Negro and celebrate Afro-Brazilian culture.
The Vasco da Gama football shirt features a black base with gold trim and the club’s red Maltese cross on the chest, while a sleeve detail reads “Os Negros Criaram a História.” Its design takes inspiration from traditional Kente fabrics and Adinkra symbols of the Ashanti people of Ghana, representing cultural pride and ancestral roots.
The concept also draws from Black Dandyism, a movement that expresses identity through style and sophistication as a form of self-affirmation and resistance. This connection between fashion and heritage reflects Vasco’s legacy as a club that promotes equality and representation both on and off the pitch.
The collaboration with Braziline reinforces a shared commitment to using sport as a space for cultural dialogue and recognition. The Black Awareness Month shirt continues Vasco da Gama’s tradition of honouring Black Brazilian heritage and standing against discrimination.
