These are the new SC Heerenveen home and away kits fot the 2007/2008 season made by Umbro.
It is that mentality of modesty and determination that characterises the club with a strong following in the rather thinly populated north of Holland. Heerenveen hails from Friesland, a rural province with 650.000 inhabitants and with a strong sense of history and tradition. Friesland has its own language (more Anglo-Saxon than the germanic Dutch) and culture and is often regarded as a rather proud 'nation within a nation'.
Heerenveen plays in an outfit that resembles the Frisian flag: blue and white vertical stripes with diagonal red 'hearts' that are called 'pompeblêden' in the indigenous language, the name for a certain type of water lily (Nympaea alba). At the start of every home game in the Dutch league the Frisian anthem is played, sounding almost as impressive as a sold-out Cardiff Arms Park before a Welsh national rugby game.

sc Heerenveen (Frisian: sc It Hearrenfean) is a Dutch football club currently playing in the Eredivisie, the Dutch Premier Division.
The club, founded on July 20, 1920, is located in the town of Heerenveen, the Netherlands. A small club by European standards, sc Heerenveen managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage in the 2000/2001 season, having secured 2nd position in the Eredivisie in the 1999/2000 season.
Having played in European cup competitions for many seasons, this club can be seen as one the few teams in the Eredivisie who can challenge the top triumvirate of PSV, Feyenoord and Ajax. The average attendance is just over 25000 spectators. Ever since the stadium was opened (in 1994) the stadium is in a constant state of redevelopment. For only two seasons the shape of the stadium remained the same (as of 2007).
The crest on the club emblem is the symbol of the flag of Friesland, the province where the club is located, and every home game at the Abe Lenstra stadium is preceded with the Frisian anthem.
It may seem a bit strange that a club from a town with just 28,000 inhabitants can have such a large fanbase. However, sc Heerenveen is seen as the Pride of Friesland by most of the inhabitants of the province, and almost every Frisian football fan is a supporter of Heerenveen - except for the people of the Frisian capital, Leeuwarden, who usually support the local team Cambuur.
The club was led from 1983 until September 2006 by president Riemer van der Velde, the longest staying president ever with a professional club in the Netherlands.
On April 29, 2007, SC Heerenveen reached the 5th place in the Dutch Eredivisie, by winning with 5-1 against Feyenoord. Afonso Alves was the man of the match with 4 goals. The 5th place gives them a UEFA Cup ticket for season 2007/2008 and they also reached the Champions League playoffs stage in the Dutch Eredivisie. The first, and as it turned out to be only, opponent was Ajax. The home tie was won (1-0) but the return match was lost (4-0). Heerenveen will be playing UEFA cup football next season.
